PEOPLE had a good workout and supported local charity FLEET when they took part in a Fat Slam fundraiser on Saturday.

The fitness event at Bodmin's Public Rooms was organised by 22-year-old Stuart Hendry who is running the London Marathon for the charity in April.

Taking a break from the fitness session are some of the people who came along to support the event.

Mr Hendry, who works at the town's Asda store, is hoping to raise £2,000 in sponsorship for FLEET (Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust).

He ran the same marathon two years ago for the charity and raised £1,500.

The fitness event on Saturday featured Zumba with instructor Mike Truscott and the new Bokwa routines with instructor David Herman.

Mr Hendry said he had hoped more people would come along to the event, but those who did enjoyed what was a very tough workout.

"The sessions were quite intense, but everyone who came enjoyed the workouts.

"People who normally take part in Zumba tried Bokwa and vice versa, and it was a pretty hectic afternoon for everyone.''

He said he was planning another fitness fundraiser on a different theme, to raise more money for his marathon sponsorship. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by going to Stuart Hendry's Just Giving internet page.

Lakeview Fun Run

posted 18 Aug 2011 11:19 by FLEET Webmaster   [ updated 18 Aug 2011 11:24 ]

HUNDREDS of people flocked to Lakeview Country Club in Lanivet on Sunday for a charity fun day in aid of Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust (FLEET).  The event started with a 10k fun run which saw 35 entrants. Organiser and leisure manager Trudi Swann said: "Although the turnout for the fun run was not as high as we would have hoped the standard was excellent.

"Well done to all who took part. The winning male was Mike Parsons, completing it in 36 minutes 41 seconds, and the first woman home was Alicia Livingstone in 43:25.

Trudi said: "A special well done to Mike Vernon who came last but he still carried on" He completed in 1.17:50. The 65-year-old had not run since Christmas.

After the fun run a fun day followed which included rides, inflatable slides, people in stocks having wet sponges thrown at them, street surfing, football and musical entertainment including 12-year-old Redley.

Ms Swann said: "It went really well, it was a great success. Everyone seemed to have a great time and there was fun for all the family.

"Everyone gave their time for free.

"The barbecue sold out and everyone worked so hard, especially the grounds team.

"Thank you to everyone for their support and we will definitely do one again next year."

The event has so far raised more than £300 for FLEET, Ms Swann said: "It is still being counted so could be more. I really wanted to support a local charity and felt that FLEET is so important. Everyone knows of someone, a friend or family member, who has needed an ambulance at some time. It touches us all.

"The founder, Norman Trebilcock, works so hard. I have run marathons with him in the past, and I think it is important for the community to support him."

Several local bands took to the stage throughout the event and there was entertainment for the children including bouncy castle and face painting.

The event was organised by Lee Mills from the hotel and Sue Kitto (CORR) from Padstow who are both first responders and wanted to raise money for the Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust (FLEET) which has been working hard to support the ambulance service in Cornwall for more than 20 years.

Miss Mills said: "I love being a first responder and we both wanted to help raise more money for FLEET which is such an important charity. This year we raised £2,000 and we are delighted. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us, helped on the day and donated money. A big thank you to Kate Bray and Nicola Briskham from Padstow who did the face painting, it was really amazing and helped to raise £140 towards our final total."

The Well Parc's next fundraising event will be a barbecue and fete on Wednesday August 24 form 6.30pm and its next Real Ale Festival will be on Sunday May 27 next year.
