Cycleride2008

MORE THAN 100 cyclists from Cornwall and Devon peddled their way along the Camel Trail to raise thousands of pounds for one of the county's best-supported charities on Saturday.
It was the 22nd year the 18-mile fund- raiser for Fleet (Front Line Emergency Equipment Trust) had been held and, and organiser Norman Trebilcock, who founded the charity, agreed it was one of the most successful yet.

More than £6,000 was raised in sponsorship and a further £3,000 was raised through a prize draw.

Riders were greeted with hospitality along the length of the route.

The Red Lion at St Kew Highway offered refreshments, free beer was served to participants at Pendoggett, the Diamond family who run a holiday park at Gunvenna put on a BBQ and there was further liquid refreshment on hand at the Molesworth Arms in Wadebridge.

Mr Trebilcock, who lives in Bodmin, thanked all the riders for raising so much money and those who had offered refreshments along the way.

He said: "We had an absolutely brilliant day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, some so much that they took over eight hours to finish the cycle ride.

"We had two lads who cycled from Par to Wadebridge to take part and then cycled back home again - fantastic."

And Mr Trebilcock had something else to cheer about the following day, although he admitted he was a little sore on Monday morning.

He travelled to Truro for the start of the Martin Jennings Cycle Ride which raised a further £4,500.
